In D.C.
Well, we made it to Washington, D.C.!
We had to drop our dog off in Louisiana, so we flew out of New Orleans. If any of you are wondering, yes, the city is still a cesspool. We took a tour and it was as nasty as you imagine it would be. There is still debris everywhere, and there are crews still stripping some of the houses. We didn’t get to go into the 9th ward, but we saw a lot of the damage where the 17th street canal failed.
Anyway, so we got on the plane without issue. They had assigned us to seats on opposite sides of the plane, so Michelle worked it out and got us into row 3 on the 737. I say that little detail because it’s important. Row 3 is appearantly the first row after first class. That means that there is a divider in front of the row, not a row of seats! That seemed like a great blessing! I actually had room to stretch! It seemed like a good idea, that is, until they made the announcements… Appearantly, safety issues and whatnot prevent you from having anything under your feet. Row 3 is also special in that there is NOWHERE TO STORE YOUR CARRY ON BAG NEAR YOUR PERSON! We had to store our carryons in the overhead compartments! We brought our laptops to give us something to do on the plane!!!!! lol.
After all that, the flight was uneventful… Seemed to be a quick 2.5 hours… This time, when we landed we were able to find all our bags ok and get out of the airport fairly quickly. Our long journey to the hotel was exhausting, tho! We had to take a bus to a Metro station (subway). We took the subway up about 6 stops and switched to a different line. Then our stop was another 5 or so stops. At least the subways are air conditioned!!! The hotel was a couple blocks from the Metro station and we were both exhausted already, so that little walk seemed to go on forever!Â
At the hotel, we were able to go up to the room and relax pretty quickly, so that was good! We ate supper at the hotel restaurant and then went on a scavenger hunt looking for some milk and other things (Cokes!!!!). A couple hours later, we settled in to the hotel for the night… I hate traveling… Have I ever mentioned that? I really hate traveling. I LOVE the vaction, I just hate the first and last day of the vacation! lol…
